To the Beth Shalom Community –
I am just wrapping up my time at the Kellogg Management Education Program for Jewish Leaders, a program for Rabbis and Executive Directors which Rabbi Borodin and I were invited to participate in. While Rabbi Borodin was not able to join me for this exciting opportunity, I was able to go and wanted to give you a brief synopsis of the program. I am returning excited and rejuvenated, filled with many ideas and thoughts on helping us continue to grow and flourish.
An overview of the program with comments:
Memorable quote: “Consider the janitor at NASA who when asked what he does for NASA replied:
‘I put men on the moon.’”
Memorable thought: consider expanding our donor circle to include the grandparents of both ECC and Religious
School kids.
Fascinating analysis of the movie “12 Angry Men” and its portrayal of specific leadership styles.
- Implementing Change / Bob Duncan:
Memorable note: continuous anticipation of change is essential
Memorable thought: “You can’t stop the winds, but you can change the sails.”
Workshop on identifying the three major financial statements, learning to ask the right questions and examine best
practices.
Marketing principles, ideas and examination of best practices
Memorable quote from Professor Jain: “To the world you may be a person, but to a person, you may be the world.”
Interesting take away: consider that all aspects of life should be balanced among the following 6 buckets (in no
particular order):
Family / Career / Spirituality / Fun / Health / Service
I look forward to sharing more of my experiences with you in time as well as specific action items and plans I hope to implement in the near future. Thanks again for the opportunity to learn and grow in the service of Beth Shalom.
Tzachi
