Pro-Mideast in America: Getting Past 'Pro-Israel' and 'Pro-Palestine'
Presented by Haaretz Columnist Bradley Burston
Saturday, October 30, 7 pm at Congregation Beth Shalom

This event is being co-sponsored with J Street / Seattle

Bradley Burston is an American-born Israeli journalist columnist for Israel's Haaretz Newspaper, and Senior Editor of Haaretz.com which publishes his blog, "A Special Place in Hell." During the first Palestinian uprising, he served as Gaza correspondent for the Jerusalem Post, and was the paper's military correspondent in the 1991 Gulf War.

Burston worked for Reuters during the 1990s, reporting on the Arab–Israeli peace process and Israeli politics. Since 2000, he has been with Haaretz. In 2006, Search for Common Ground gave Burston the Eliav-Sartawi Award for Mideast Journalism, presented at the United Nations in 2006.

Burston was born and raised in Los Angeles, where he was a member of the Labor Zionist youth movement Habonim. After graduating from UC Berkeley, he moved to Israel in 1976, where he was part of a group which established Kibbutz Gezer, between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Burston served in the IDF as a combat medic, later studying medicine in Be'er Sheva for two years before turning to journalism.

Sponsored by J Street / Seattle, a relatively new nonprofit advocacy group promoting American leadership to end the Arab – Israeli conflict.

The King County Bar Bulletin published an article this month that was written by CBS member, Kevin Britt with help from Ariel Gross.  The article discusses three disputes between condominium boards and Jewish unit owners over the display of mezuzot.  It concludes that boards should accommodate such religious displays.
