Host homes needed!

Beth Shalom will be hosting the Kadima Kinnus for the Pinwheel region on February 24th-26th.

We are still in need of a few homes for middle schoolers for that weekend. Hosting involves providing a place for the kids to sleep, breakfast on Shabbat morning, a few snacks, and transportation to and from CBS for the weekend (which can include walking on Shabbat).

If you are interested in hosting, please contact Irit Eliav  HERE.

Missing Leather Jacket from Gown minyan

Someone mistook a black leather jacket for their own at the Gown's shloshim minyan last weekend.

If you were at the minyan, and you wear a black leather jacket, it could still at the Gown's home, but someone else is missing theirs

If you could please look and see if you accidentally brought home a jacket with a tag in the back, since your jacket does not have an inside lable.

Survey Regarding Hebrew High

Dear Families and Teens,

The Community High School of Jewish Studies, or Hebrew High, is going through changes. For the past 35 years there has been a Jewish high school educational program in Seattle.   Educators and sociologists place a high value on the role of formal Jewish learning for teenagers.

Your input is needed to shape this new program.  What is important to your family and your student?  We want to know!  It is vital that we gain insight from parents and students alike.

Please take part in our survey and ask your student to fill it out as well. Everyone who completes the survey by Jan. 30, 2012 will be entered in a drawing to win a $25 Starbucks or iTunes gift card.

Please click on the link HERE and fill out our short survey.

Ernest Bloch: "Poèms Juifs"
Wednesday, 2/22 from 7:15pm at Temple Beth Am - Free
Ernest Bloch's importance to the heritage of Jewish musical culture was enormous.  Born in Switzerland in 1895, he studied with violinist-composer Eugéne Ysaÿe, and his career took him to great music centers of Europe.  The haunting beauty of his music, frequently inspired by his Jewish heritage, overcame much of the prejudices of the day.  Bloch moved to America in 1915, later holding teaching duties at the Mannes School of Music (New York City), the Cleveland Institute of Music, and the San Francisco Conservatory. In this lecture, we will explore the full extent of his artistic talent, not only his hypnotic and elegiac "Jewish" music - above all his celebrated Schelomo - but his invigorating "American" music as well.
The program is sponsored by Seattle Jewish Seniors and supported by Heinz Schwarz Fund.
