1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

Learn about housing discrimination and the history of racially restrictive covenants (racial restrictions written into deeds) in Seattle with the UW Racial Restrictive Covenants Project.

In this presentation, a research associate from the University of Washington will discuss the history of racially restrictive covenants, how data about these covenants and other forms of exclusion have been collected, and how these covenants have impacted Seattle in long-lasting ways.

The session will cover covenants that affected the Seattle Jewish community, as well as other marginalized groups within Seattle. and will conclude with an exploration of Washington State legislation aimed at addressing issues of housing discrimination, as well as time for Q&A.

All are encouraged to come learn more about this history, especially those going on the Civil Rights Journey this April.
