Community Advocacy
Community Advocacy
In addition to directly supporting our neighbors who are in need, Beth Shalom's Social Action Committee partners with community organizations to advocate for needed changes on the systemic level. Our community partners include: the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle, Faith Action Network, the Multifaith Criminal Justice Reform Coalition, Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network, and others.
Multifaith Lobby Day January 25th (virtual)
Beth Shalom’s Tzedek group invites you to join the Multifaith Criminal Justice Reform Coalition for a virtual lobby day to advocate for making Washington State incarceration more humane. The Multifaith Lobby Day will be January 25th from 9am to 4pm, during which you will have an opportunity to meet with your representatives to advocate for these bills. Sign up for the Lobby Day here, and please let Melani know if you plan to attend. Please help us make meaningful change in Washington State.
Immimgrant and Refugee Advocacy Days (virtual)
January 25-27, 2022
The Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network (WAISN) was created to strengthen and champion immigrant and refugee communities. This year, we are more prepared than ever to fight for our neighbors, families, and friends. Join us from January 25-27 to demand your legislators to protect our immigrant and refugee communities! Register here.
Virtual Interfaith Advocacy Day
February 10th, 2022 9:00 AM through 12:00 PM
FAITH ACTION NETWORK’s Virtual Interfaith Advocacy Day brings voices of compassion and justice to our elected leaders. We partner with people of faith and conscience to learn about and advance bills that support economic justice, fair taxation, police accountability and criminal justice system reform, affordable housing and services for people experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity, environmental protections, immigrant and refugee rights, gun safety, civil rights, racial justice, and access to healthcare and mental healthcare. Meet virtually with your legislators and their staff, and put your faith into action! Register here.
Virtual Jewish Community Lobby Day
Thursday, February 17, 2022
Join your friends, neighbors, congregants, and fellow engaged Washingtonians for virtual Jewish Community Lobby Day! We’ll do all the prep work for you; no prior experience necessary. We’ll walk you through learning about the issues and practicing our lobbying pitches, all to ensure you’re prepared to meet with your legislators to discuss the issues that are most important to you. We’ll address issues like combating hate and discrimination, protecting immigrants and refugees, preventing gun violence, supporting vulnerable families, and more! We would love to welcome students (high school, undergraduates, and beyond) to participate in Lobby Day—after all, young people are often the most effective and passionate advocates! Register here.
