12:00 PM - 1:30 PMZoom

Join Congregation Beth Shalom, Kol Ami and Temple Beth Am for a virtual screening of the 40-minute film BEYLE: The Artist and Her Legacy. Raised in Czernowitz, Holocaust survivor Beyle Schaechter-Gottesman became a central figure in the vibrant Yiddish world of the Bronx, New York. Beyle’s poetry, songs, and artwork were invaluable contributions to traditional Jewish folk art. Her creative output spanned seven decades, multiple continents, and numerous media. Beyle, named a National Heritage Fellow in 2005, dedicated her life to preserving and spreading Yiddish through a community of scholars, artists, and Yiddish enthusiasts. BEYLE: The Artist and Her Legacy explores her influence on Yiddish culture through archival recordings and exclusive interviews with Beyle and others. After the screening, Seattle klezmer musicians and Yiddish speakers Harvey Niebulski and Marianne Tatom will lead a singalong of several of Beyle's songs.

Register below by 9am Friday, June 24 to be sent the Zoom link.
