Feed the Community

TEEN FEED: Join us the fifth Monday of a month (almost every other month) for Teen Feed. The task force serves a hot, nutritious meal to 30-60 homeless youth as part of an interfaith coalition. Our team is divided into a cooking team and a serving/cleaning team. Each shift is approximately 2 hours long, starting at 4:30 pm and ending around 8:30 pm. We meet in the University Lutheran Church on the corner of 16th Ave. NE and NE 50th Street.

LAKE CITY MEALS: Join us the third Sunday of every month as we bring prepared meals and feed our neighbors in Lake City. 4:30-4:45 p.m. is drop-off and set-up; 5:00-6:00 p.m. is the take-away meal service. You can participate by just providing already packaged take-away food (25 servings/items and some kind of protein is always appreciated) and dropping it off and/or you can stay help organize bags and greet folks. Location: Lamb of G-d Lutheran Church at 12509 27th Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98125.

House the Community

Building Tiny Homes
Sunday, 10/15 from 2:00-6:00pm
Give me ingredients for baking and I will bake breads, brownies, babkas. Give me ingredients for meals and I'll make salads, stews, soups, salmon. Give me a power tool and yikes, what am I supposed to do with this?  With a little coaching and practice I discovered I am fairly competent at using a staple gun, electric screw driver, table saw, caulk gun, the tools for making a house. I'm sure you will discover this as well.
Sound Foundations  is committed to building Tiny Homes for those whose home is on the streets or in a tent. Check out their video here.
Pirkeh Avot tells us that the world rests on three things, Torah, Avodah and Gemilut Hasadim. Gandhi teaches us that "the true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members."
To give a person a home with a lock for their belongings, a bed to lay their body, safety and stability, is a mitzvah and a great honor to that person's dignity. If you want to do something to alleviate our housing crisis, join us Oct. 15th, 2-6 p.m. and help restore a person's dignity. We need 10-12 volunteers.  Contact Susan Monas to sign up.

*This would be a great service project for High School students.
