We will be celebrating the first day of Shavuot (June 11-12) with Israeli scholar Masua Sagiv as our Bierman Scholar in Residence!

Tikkun Leil Shavuot | Tuesday, June 11 | (in person and livestream)

  • 7:30 PM: Keynote with Masua Sagiv (Navigating Deep Crises as a People)
  • 8:45 PM: Candle lighting ( 8:49 PM) followed by Maariv and Dessert
  • 9:30 - 10:45 PM: More learning with Masua Sagiv (Standing at Sinai in 2024) 
  • 10:45 - 11:00 PM: Break
  • 11:00 - 11:50 PM: Learning with Rabbi Rose (More info to come!)
  • 12:00 - 1:00 AM: Learning with Rabbi Borodin (More info to come!)

 

Tikkun Leil Shavuot (June 11) Youth programming with Rachel and Dana

  • 7:30 - 8:45 PM: Cooking program for Kindergarten-6th graders (in the kitchen/social hall) 
  • 9:30 - 10:45 PM: Cooking program for teens (7th-12th graders) in the CBS kitchen

No registration needed for Youth Programming. 

 

Shavuot Day 1 |Wednesday, June 12 (in person and livestream

  • At 9:30 AM, join us for Shavuot services featuring a d’var Torah from Masua Sagiv, followed by a delightful Kiddush lunch. 

There will also be babysitting in Room 4/5 during services.

 

Shavuot Day 2 | Thursday, June 13 | (in person and livestream

  • At 9:30 AM, join us for Shavuot services (including Yizkor), followed by Kiddush lunch. 

There will also be babysitting in Room 4/5 during services.

Sacred Cycles of Time: Hasidic Teachings on Purim, Pesach, and Shavuot with Rabbi Fern Feldman

Wednesday, June 5 | 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM REGISTER

 

Reading Hassidic texts, supplemented with background from Tanakh, Midrash, and Kabbalah, we will explore how to ride the waves of sacred time through the major spring holidays, allowing us to interweave our own journeys with the journeys of our people, the earth, and the flow of divine presence. This course will be in-person, in the CBS Beit Midrash.

Masua will be teaching on: Navigating Deep Crises as a People and Standing at Sinai in 2024.

 

About: Masua Sagiv is the Koret Visiting Assistant Professor of Jewish and Israel Studies at UC Berkeley and a Scholar in Residence of the Shalom Hartman Institute in the San Francisco Bay Area. Masua’s scholarly work focuses on the development of contemporary Judaism in Israel, as a culture, religion, nationality, and as part of Israel’s identity as a Jewish and democratic state. Her research explores the role of law, state actors and civil society organizations in promoting social change across diverse issues: shared society, religion and gender, religion and state, and Jewish peoplehood.
