Join Jewish Family Service and CBS for a supportive listening group, facilitated by clinical psychologist Steve Katz. 

Forest Bathing with Rabbi Dan Fink | Thursday, July 10 | 1:00–3:00 PM | Register

Forest bathing (or shinrin-yoku) is a mindfulness, embodiment, and nature-connection practice that originated in Japan and has spread around the world. The name refers to bathing yourself in the forest atmosphere through all of your senses. 

Build Creative Resilience During the High Holiday Season | July 29 | 7:00 PM | Register

Join Rabbis Jill Borodin and Laura Rumpf in collaboration with the Jewish Studio Project for a meaningful, creative 2-part series to bookend the High Holy Days. We'll explore themes of brokenness and repair in preparation for Tisha B'av, and rebuilding our sense of 'Sukkat Shalom' during our Sukkot festival, weaving ancient Jewish wisdom and creative materials. No art or text-study experience necessary!

Farm Tour at Blue Moose Farm on Vashon Island Sunday, August 31 – 12:30 PM  | Register

Join us for a vegetarian potluck lunch, farm tour, light Torah study, and dessert at a beautiful conservation-focused farm. Great for nature lovers of all ages! A short ferry ride from West Seattle, this seven-acre farm is located near Vashon Island's western shore. Half the land is dedicated to forest conservation and the other half to agriculture. It is also home to a mix of ducks, geese, and chickens who will eat from your hand.

Our July 18 and August 15 services will be hosted in the backyards of CBS members. We encourage attendees to bring a picnic style meal (vegetarian only) for after services. If you would like to attend these services, please register. Location details shared by registration.

    

Shabbat After Lunch Learning:

Hagbah Training with Alan Rodan and Alison Sands on 6/21 at 1pm: Learn techniques for lifting the Sefer Torah after the Torah is read at services.  We'll use a fake scroll with weights to practice lifting.

Eitan Cooper joins us for Shabbat on 7/5 at 1pm: We’re excited to welcome Eitan Cooper, president of our sister synagogue in Jerusalem, Kehillat Moreshet Avraham, and his wife Anita Cooper, a past president of the congregation, as our guests for Shabbat on July 5. Eitan will deliver the D’var Torah during services, and both Eitan and Anita will lead a conversation over lunch about our sister shul. They’ll also join us for singing after lunch—bringing with them some special melodies from Jerusalem.

Reflections on the Moment in Israel with Joel Migdal and Peggy Brill on 7/19 at 1pm: Reflections on the Moment in Israel with Joel Migdal and Peggy Brill Join us for a thoughtful conversation and reflection on the current moment in Israel with longtime CBS members Joel Migdal and Peggy Brill.

Shabbat Learning about Tisha B'Av on 7/26 at 1pm: Tisha B’Av marks several different calamities in Jewish history. The rabbis offer a number of explanations for why these events happened and the role the Jewish people may have played in bringing about this destruction. Join us as we explore rabbinic perspectives on how our actions can shape our reality, for better or for worse.


Young Family Shabbat Programming: 

For security reasons we request that all guests, nonmembers, and newcomers to Beth Shalom notify us in advance that they will be attending Shabbat in the Park. The location will be shared with those who register.

Shabbat in the Park | Fridays: June 27, July 25, August 22 | Register 

Celebrate Shabbat with us outdoors! We'll start with a joyful, song-filled service geared toward families with children under 9(ish), followed by a relaxed vegetarian potluck dinner. It’s a wonderful chance to connect, play, and enjoy Shabbat with other Beth Shalom families.
